Reading, England – 25th April 2017 – READ College, the most successful Performing Arts Foundation Course provider in the country, is delighted to announce that one of its graduates, Aisha Williams, has just been cast in The Colour Purple, the multi-Tony Award winning show at Cadogan Hall in London on Sunday 21st May 2017.
The show, The Colour Purple, is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and first appeared in America in Atlanta, Georgia in 2005. It then moved to Broadway, where it was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and subsequently won two for ‘Best Revival of a Musical’ and ‘Best Actress in a Musical’. This production at Cadogan Hall will be a Charity Gala performance for the British Theatre Academy to raise money for young performers who cannot afford to train in performing arts and will see Aisha performing amongst some of the West End’s brightest stars.
Aisha commented: “I am so excited to have the opportunity to perform in such a highly regarded, international musical along-side top performers from the West End, and for such a good cause. It is an exciting time in my career and I am delighted to share it with my past classmates and everyone at READ College. READ College helped me to refine my performing skills and gave me the confidence to pursue a career in the performing arts. I just don’t think I would have had this opportunity without them and I look forward to seeing Jamie and Helen Read in the audience on the night!”
Jamie Read, Co-Director of READ College commented: “We are delighted to be able to share in Aisha’s success. She is a great example to our current, and future, students of what hard work and opportunity can bring. We look forward to seeing her perform on the night and in sharing, what I am sure will be a very long and successful career in the performing arts. And as they say in our business – Break a Leg!”
