Read
Jamie Read has been teaching for over a decade, and is a CMT (Certified Master Teacher) of Estill Voice Training and a member of the British Voice Association. As a further education teacher in voice, he has worked all over the UK including at The Henley College, Thames Valley University, Liverpool Theatre School and College, and as a Guest Teacher for Matthew Reeve at Mountview and for Anne Marie Speed at the Royal Academy of Music. He is also Partner and Head of Voice at Read Dance and Theatre Schools.
He trained originally as a Musical Theatre performer at Sylvia Young Theatre School, then furthered his vocal training under Craig Barbour RSAMD (principal singing teacher at RADA), and has worked extensively as an actor, singer, dancer and choreographer.
Theatre credits include Entertaining Strangers (National Theatre); Marvin’s Room (Hampstead Theatre and West End); Spirit of The Dance (USA and European tours); Hard Times The Musical (Original workshop, Windsor Theatre Royal, and West End); Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK national tour and West End); The Emperor & The Nightingale (MAC Birmingham); Femme Fatale (Warehouse Theatre Croydon); Salad Days (50th Anniversary UK tour); The Wizard of Oz (Birmingham Rep); The Great West Road (Watermill Theatre, Newbury). Film and TV includes Born and Bred (BBC); D-Day 6-6-44 (BBC/Dangerous Films) plus many commercials and several appearances on children’s TV for both the BBC and ITV. He has co-written two shows for the Edinburgh Festival - The Ballad of Reading Gaol and Miss Sign-On; The Untold Story of a Diva on the Dole, the cast recording of which is available from Dress Circle and also online to download. He also appears on several recordings including Hard Times The Musical; The Ballad of Reading Gaol; and A Tribute to Cameron Mackintosh, and to date has choreographed dozens of shows including 5 seasons for the Warehouse Theatre Croydon.
Jamie is still a regular guest tap dance teacher with ATD and Tap Attack, and is an Associate of Reeve & Moller Professional Voice Consultancy having completed their Certification Pathway in 2010.
