Ellie Verkerk
Ellie studied at the Royal College of Music as a pianist (specialising in accompaniment) and French Horn Player. She has been teaching for the last 20 years, and is a firm believer in supporting, teaching and inspiring our next generation of performing creatives. She works as a deputy keys player / backing vocalist for Jersey Boys and is an associate teacher at the Guildford School of Acting. She is the MD for Interval Productions, working with Tori Allen-Martin. On the piano, her specialisms include Classical and Musical Theatre styles. As a trumpeter, she works as a soul / funk / jazz instrumentalist. She also fixes musicians for a range of events - from musical theatre, to corporate functions, from classical to jazz players.
Amongst her freelance work, she plays the piano for various cabaret evenings, and works as a session musician. She has contributed to two albums - Stef Fearon’s “My Parade” (on keys), and to Buswell’s forthcoming album (on trumpet and flugal horn), “Stitched Shoes and an Irish Wristwatch”, due for release in late 2011. She is a featured trumpet player in Sheridan’s music video “Let It Go”, and plays keys for The London Showband / Bond Band which tours nationwide playing for various events and functions. She plays the trumpet in two bands - Angel Sparks (a glam pop outfit), and Buswell (an alternative folk singer / songwriter), and has spent the summer playing at various Music Festivals.
As MD, her latest project has been to work on a revival of ‘Oh What A Lovely War’ with Blackeyed Theatre, which started it’s UK tour in September. She has been appointed as MD / pianist for a series of monthly cabaret gigs, featuring various West End singers, at the South Hill Park Arts Centre in Berkshire. The first cabaret of the season will feature Dani de Waal (currently starring as Sophie Sheridan in “Mamma Mia”) on October 9th.
