READ College Prospectus 2017

Our One Year Foundation Course in Musical Theatre is full-time, with over 27 hours per week of contact time with tutors. Students study classes across all 3 disciplines of Musical Theatre, with subjects including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Commercial, Singing Rep, Ensemble Singing, Vocal Tech, Improvisation, Audition Rep, Shakespeare and Contextual Studies.

Students on our Foundation Course in Musical Theatre also benefit from weekly Audition Preparation classes and regular visits from many of the top 3-yr Musical Theatre Colleges colleges in the country who come to deliver talks and masterclasses at READ.

During term one of their training, students on our Foundation Course work on developing their core techniques in Dance, Drama and Singing. They are coached on audition repertoire, and spend dedicated class time with expert tutors researching the college courses that will suit their skills and career aspirations the best.

In term two, students begin the process of auditioning, whilst continuing to develop their techniques and knowledge. They also start preparing for their ATCL Level 4 Diploma in Performing, which is the accredited qualification (equivalent to 1st Year Degree Studies) that all of our students leave the course with. The Diploma exams are held just after the Easter break each year, with all students on the Foundation Course in Musical Theatre presenting a 20 minute one-person show, featuring elements of Singing, Dance and Acting.

Finally in term three, our Musical Theatre students begin rehearsing for their end of year Showcase. The Showcase is a chance to get on stage and put everything into practice that they have learned throughout their Foundation Course year, and we invite all of the major Dance and Musical Theatre colleges to watch the Showcase so that they can see the standard that our Foundation students attain.

At READ College, we do not favour one discipline of Musical Theatre over another. In other words, if you are more experienced in dance and less in singing, or more experienced in drama and less in dance, then we will work with you to help you develop your strengths and combat your weaknesses.

Our graduates are now studying at most the UK’s top Dance and Musical Theatre Colleges – find out where by visiting our Wall of Fame!
