READ College Prospectus 2017

Our One Year Foundation Course in Acting at READ College has leading industry success rates, and is full-time with at least 27 hours of contact time with tutors per week.

Students study a large range of classes to develop their repertoire, knowledge and technique including Classical Theatre, British Theatre, Voice, Brecht, Stanislavsky, Russian Drama, Audition Repertoire, Improvisation, Singing, and Body Conditioning.

Our students also benefit from weekly Audition Preparation classes and regular visits from many of the top 3-yr Drama Schools in the country, who come to deliver talks and masterclasses at READ.

During term one, students on our Acting Foundation Course are focussed strongly on developing their techniques in all aspects of drama and voice. They are coached on audition repertoire, and spend dedicated class time with expert tutors researching the college courses that will suit their skills and career aspirations the best.

Term two continues to challenge and develop students with technique and also audition repertoire to make sure that they are fully prepared to audition for their 3-year Acting courses. At the same time, students on our Foundation Course is Acting also start to prepare for their ATCL Level 4 Diploma examination. The ATCL is the accredited qualification that our students gain (equivalent to first year degree studies) and we have an above-average number of students attaining Distinction grades. In May, students also create a devised comedy show. Starting with an empty rehearsal room and no script, and finishing 3 weeks later with a sold-out theatre venue, the students learn about what it takes to devise, script and produce a piece of small-scale theatre. You can find out more about the performances that our Acting Foundation Course students are doing by clicking through to our Performances page here…

Finally in term 3, students are joined by a guest professional director, to stage a full-scale play at a professional venue as their end of year Showcase in front of invited representatives from top Acting and Drama Schools.

Graduates from our One Year Foundation Course in Acting are now studying at most of the top drama colleges in the UK – find out where they are now by visiting our Wall of Fame!
