"Training young performers is key to their future success, and if you're going to get a place at a top dance or drama college then you need an edge over the competition right from the start. That's why the course at Read is so important."

Craig Revel Horwood - Award Winning Theatre Director and Choreographer & Patron of Read College

"I am very impressed with the work that you are doing, and I am happy to be a supporter of Read College"

Overview:

Our intensive, one-year Foundation Courses in Musical Theatre and Acting are designed to maximise a student's chance of getting a funded place at Dance College or Drama School.  Both the Musical Theatre and Acting courses are full time from 8.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, with at least 27.5 hours of student/teacher contact time per week - more than most National Diploma/A-level courses.

Our tutors are hugely experienced industry experts in their field and have current experience of what the major 3-year Acting and Musical Theatre courses are looking for and how best to prepare to audition for them.

Both courses lead to the Level 4 ATCL Diploma in Performing, accredited by Trinity College London, in the relevant subject of Acting or Musical Theatre accordingly.

For both courses, term one focuses heavily on technique in all disciplines, developing the students craft and knowledge of their industry and subject. Students are also given expert advice on which colleges to apply to, how to prepare and present their applications, and what to expect at audition.

Term two continues this work with an additional focus on audition preparation and work for the ATCL Diploma examinations, which are practical, vocational exams.

Finally, term three works towards the students’ Showcase performance where they have the chance to perform in a professional theatre, working with industry directors/musical directors/choreographers etc.

Our students are given unique access to advice from industry professionals during weekly Audition Preparation classes. Visiting tutors will include
members of the audition panels at major dance colleges and drama schools; working professional performers; former students who successfully secured places; and top London casting professionals, to help our students perform at their best when auditioning for their future training.
